What are the Essential Eight?

The Essential Eight are a set of strategies developed by the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) to empower businesses to protect themselves from serious cyber threats. It is based on a maturity model, allowing organisations to scale their cyber security according to their size and risk.

Application Control

Restrict the use of unauthorised applications within your network.

User Application Hardening

Disable unnecessary features and increase security settings.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Require users to provide two or more forms of ID before accessing the network.

Application Patching

Ensure your applications are regularly updated and patched.

Restrict Admin Privileges

Only grant admin rights to those who need them and regularly review admin privileges.

Configure Microsoft Macro Settings

Configure settings to reduce or block the use of macros.

Patch Operating Systems

Ensure your operating systems are regularly updated and patched.

Daily Backup

Store backups in a secure location to prevent them from being compromised.

Essential Eight Assessments
